Black Unicorn

Glossy black from muzzle to tail, it has solid black eyes and sharp canine teeth. Folk sometimes call it a nightmare, which muddles it with the fiery steed of the lower planes.

In total darkness, even magical darkness, it sees perfectly to 300 feet. Light is its weakness: it saves at -1 against blinding or dazzling effects, and in daylight it is effectively blind, at -4 to hit. A silence, 15' radius always surrounds it. Three times each per day it can cast darkness, 15' radius or become invisible, and it can teleport like other unicorns, but only from darkness. Its horn carries poison: a victim who fails a save vs. poison is paralyzed for three days and dies of heart failure at the end of that time unless the toxin is neutralized first.

These evil wanderers keep loose family ties, claim no land and roam, often unseen, spreading chaos. Very evil fighters or thieves, male or female, may ride them.

Carnivores, they like prey still alive while they eat. Poison brewed from the horn kills within one round on a failed save vs. poison and paralyzes for 1-3 hours even on a success.
