A turtle the size of a small island, 60 feet long, with a mouth that splits its whole head open and a shell shingled like a roof.
Named for a monster of Sumatran legend, this is a sea turtle 60 feet long and 40 wide. Its gaping mouth splits the head in two, and one witness claimed the inside is bright red. It has large eyes and is sometimes said to have fleshy filaments around the mouth. The shell rises and sweeps back at the front, then slopes down behind. Front scales are barely visible, but rear ones are big as roof shingles.
Sightings are rare, the last in 1960, and come from cold temperate seas, odd for a reptile, though huge bodies hold heat well and the leatherback also ranges north. It may be an overgrown descendant of the ancient sea turtle Archelon. Use Archelon statistics with 16 Hit Dice, THAC0 5, damage 2-20, size G (60 by 40 feet) and 8,000 XP.
