Harim Servant Genie [Tasked]

Fatherly giants who guard, pamper and entertain the women in their care, harim servant genies obey their master's words but quietly serve their charges first.

Setting: Al-Qadim · Sources: Monstrous Compendium, 1994 Annual, Volume 1; City of Delights

Appearance

Harim servant genies protect the women of a harim, entertain them and handle countless small chores. Most are tall, muscular, plain-faced males dressed in simple but finely made clothes. Even genies want them, though in genie households they are more menials than guardians, which is why most prefer serving lesser beings, where they feel more important.

Combat

Three times daily each they cast cantrip, mending, minor creation, major creation and control temperature 10' radius, and once daily create food and water and alarm, as 9th-level wizards or priests, using these to guard, serve and amuse their charges. They are also skilled fighters, usually wielding two great scimitars at once without trouble thanks to their size and strength, and punching when unarmed.

Habitat and Society

Male servants act like protective fathers; females are strong matrons who keep order. Both demand respect and punish misbehavior, but prefer to solve problems with warmth and a sense of family. They do everything from cooking and sewing to guarding and washing feet, use cantrip freely for cleaning and fun, and are skilled in sewing, cooking, healing and both ancient and local history. They tell legends, genie tales and jokes, and some teach singing or dancing.

Paid little, they find joy in good work and the love of their 'daughters', to whom they grow deeply attached. If unpaid, mistreated or bound, they shift loyalty from master to charges, obeying orders to the letter while evading their intent; in extreme cases one may help a woman flee or pursue a lover, or become her lover. Other genies stay away from a guarded harim unless its servant allows otherwise, perhaps to rescue a woman from a cruel master. A few tasked genies tend men's quarters with the same devotion.

They get on well with lesser races, especially women, but tend to pamper them and suggest clothes and conduct suited to a harim rather than a merchant's or adventurer's life.

Ecology

Losing its harim, or seeing it badly harmed, drives a harim servant insane.
