Dao reshaped by ages of construction, builder genies raise cities overnight, double the strength of anything they build and know exactly which stone to pull to bring a building down on your head.
Builder genies were once dao, remade by endless work in design and construction. Common in the dao's great delve, they are also bound by genie-callers to serve human princes or given as gifts by noble dao, and they inspired the stories of cities rising overnight. Bald and muscular like dao, with the same taste in jewelry and clothes, many bear an owner's brand on hand or brow, and they always carry squares, rulers, compasses, levels, plumb bobs, trowels and chalk.
Three times daily each they can use warp wood, vacancy and minor creation; once daily, passwall, stone tell and stone shape; and once a month they can grant a wish concerning construction. They spot structural weak points instantly: siege engines they direct do 50% more structural damage, and after an hour's study they can collapse an unfortified building or tunnel in one turn.
They avoid fighting unless ordered to defend a building, and even then only one they helped make, never in the open. Like dao, they tilt the odds first, luring foes through mazes, battlements, secret passages, traps and ambushes, and in desperation they will bring down part of a structure on attackers to save the rest.
Builders live for their work and are merciless with themselves and others to protect it. Praise the work and you flatter them; praise the builder while faulting the work and you insult them deeply. They lavish equal care on a waterwheel or a twelve-minaret mosque, insist on the costliest, longest-lasting materials and so charge four times the normal cost, but their buildings are twice as strong and last twice as long. They can copy any style they have seen, though exact structure requires a day of close study. They will build a lavish tomb in a fishing village if ordered, while lecturing the master on why it does not fit; they can be maddeningly literal or bend orders to their own taste.
Builders resent their dao masters but cannot overthrow them. They get on well with xorn, earth elementals and pech, happily raze old buildings to make room for better ones, sometimes rebuilding a masterwork with subtle improvements, and judge races by their architecture, admiring the precise warrens of giant insects.
