Two stone guardians of the desert world: the towering obsidian golem, whose thunderclap fists spray razor glass, and the armored rock golem, which hammers intruders off their feet.
These are huge humanoid statues of black volcanic glass, 12 feet tall and as heavy as 900 pounds. They cannot speak, and like rock golems they move slowly but with grim purpose. Each hand is a massive fist that can never open.
Spells from beings below 7 Hit Dice or levels have no effect, nor does any preserver's magic, whatever the caster's level. The golem gets one fist attack per round for 4d10 damage. In place of that blow it can clap its fists together. The crack of sound stuns every listener who fails a save vs. paralysis for the following round, during which their attack and initiative rolls suffer -4. At the same moment a spray of glass slivers fills a 20-foot radius: everyone there takes 2d6 and must save vs. poison, taking another 2d10 on a failure or just 2d4 more on a success.
Obsidian golems guard treasures and property. Their enchantment is so hard to master that few exist. Rumors claim some sorcerer tyrants have turned them loose in the streets to cow their people, but no one has proven it.
A rock golem stands 9 feet tall, usually carved as a giant warrior in full armor, and weighs up to 600 pounds. It can do no better than a walk. Its face is chiseled in place and never moves, and it has no voice.
As with every golem of the desert world, only magical weapons harm it. Wizard or priest spells from casters below 5th level fail against it, and like the sand golem it is wholly immune to transmutation. Because defiler magic animates it, preserver spells hurt it more: each caster level above 5th adds 1 point to the spell's damage, so +1 at 6th, +2 at 7th and so on.
Each fist blow deals 2d10, and the force is such that the target must save vs. paralysis or be knocked flat, taking 1d6 more damage from the fall. Rock golems serve as sentries, standing still as statues until commanded to attack or to bar trespassers from the place they guard.
