Erinyes [Lesser Baatezu]

Unlike other devils, erinyes are gorgeous, perfect specimens of any race and either sex in appearance, though all are female. Huge feathered wings betray their nature. They know every language and can use telepathy but prefer speech when luring mortals.

An erinyes prefers powers to blows, though she is skilled with any weapon. Anyone who looks at her saves vs. rod, staff, or wand or flees for 1d6 rounds, and she carries a rope of entanglement to bind victims. Her charm reaches anyone she gazes at within 60 feet, eye contact or not; the target saves vs. spells at half his level, so an 8th-level warrior saves as 4th. Failure makes him fanatically loyal, willing to die or sacrifice loved ones for her, until she releases him or perishes. She can hold just one such thrall at a time.

Her other powers include produce flame, polymorph self, locate object, invisibility, and detect invisibility, plus the baatezu basics. Once a day she can call 1-8 spike devils (50%) or 1-4 barbazu (35%).

Solitary and cunning, erinyes exist to tempt mortals and report straight to the Dread Eight, outside the normal hierarchy. There are always exactly 500; lesser devils are promoted to fill vacancies. Alone among devils, pit fiends included, they may enter the Prime Material Plane unsummoned. They arrive with nothing and may bring back only one person, stripped of every possession because inorganic matter cannot cross. Unless his own strength saves him, the captive dies on the hellish plains and becomes a lemure forever, which is why most devils respect the erinyes.

Many erinyes refuse promotion, unwilling to give up their special status for the ordinary ranks.
