A shapeless mass of living water easily mistaken for a water elemental, the tidewrought golem drowns intruders inside its own body and drops crushing slabs of ice on foes ashore.
This golem is an ever-shifting body of water animated by a bound water elemental spirit, and observers are 90% likely to take it for a true water elemental. It is the private creation of the supreme savant aboleth of a drowned aboleth city and obeys that savant or another savant aboleth.
It is always found submerged, or ashore no farther than 60 feet from some pool, lake or sea. A wavelike pseudopod strikes for 2d10 damage. On a natural 20, or a roll beating its needed number by 4 or more, it engulfs the target, which then takes 2d10 drowning damage each round automatically, less 1 per point of Constitution over 12 (minimum 2). Water breathing or a necklace of adaptation prevents this; airy water works only if the golem fails a save vs. spell, letting the trapped victim breathe without harming the golem. It can still pummel engulfed prey but usually targets others. It holds up to thirty tiny, ten small, four medium or one large creature.
Once per turn it can make a wall of ice, usually forming it horizontally above foes out of the water and letting it fall for 3d10 damage each. It makes sensible tactical choices and tends to open with this before melee.
It is immune to elemental water effects, cold spells, paralyzation, all poisons, acid, cause wounds spells, Strength and energy drains, gas, and attacks by any creature native to the Elemental Plane of Water. Nearly formless, it cannot be polymorphed, and like all golems it ignores mind-affecting magic. It saves at -2 against fire. Transmute water to dust destroys it if it fails a save vs. spell; on a success it still loses half its current hit points or 3d6, whichever is greater.
It has almost no will and acts on its own only to defend itself. Like greater iron or stone golems, it never escapes control. Simple guard orders work, such as attacking anything that is not an aboleth, or anything that is neither aboleth nor mind reaver. Complex or conditional orders, like sparing gray-haired intruders in red robes, fail entirely.
It never eats or sleeps and has no ecological role. Construction uses wish, wall of ice, conjure elemental for water, elemental aura (water) and animate water, an aboleth wizard spell resembling animate rock, the priest spell of 7th level. The work uses up one bowl of commanding water elementals, which takes perhaps 1d4+8 weeks and about 60,000 gp. Only the supreme savant knows the method; other wizards can build golems only of elemental earth.
