Fox-faced, feral shadow fey who hunt for the joy of it, teg burrow up beneath their prey and drag it underground for the whole pack to savage.
Teg are small and slim but far from fragile, with long pointed ears, broad fox-like faces, sharp-toothed grins, emerald cat eyes flecked with gold, and big hands ending in clawed, splayed fingers. Their muddy green clothes help them vanish into soil and leaves. A teg can be a fox for up to six hours total each day.
They know the fey tongue but rarely use it, preferring a language of grunts, hisses and howls, and they talk freely with any animal of temperate forest or grassland. They often run with foxes and similar cunning hunters.
Teg love the chase more than the kill and like to toy with prey. When they strike they leap from cover to bite and claw for 1d4. Their favorite trick is burrowing up under a victim, grabbing it, and hauling it down into the earth where the entire pack can fall on it together. Their exultant howls force everyone within 30 feet to save vs. spell or suffer confusion. Teg cast animal-sphere spells as 5th-level clerics.
Gold weapons or weapons of +2 or better harm them; wooden weapons, even magical ones, and cold or ice do not. Each round in direct sun costs 2 points of damage, or 2 per turn under clouds. They hide in shadows with 75% success, often lying in wait before an ambush or hunt, and have 120-foot infravision.
Teg roost in treetops, climbing up and down on long knotted ropes. A fox den always lies among the roots below, its occupants charmed by the teg.
Teg hunt animals for meat and pelts and love killing, but the pursuit thrills them most: the longer the quarry evades them, the sweeter the end. They visit the mortal world only to hunt, and a mortal hunter who shares their bloodlust may be taken to the shadow realm as a changeling, provided he survives a full night of being stalked.
