Brighter, bearded cousins of the bosk giant, swamp giants live in towering treetop villages, snare intruders in living vines and finish them with storms of spears.
Probably descended long ago from bosk giants, swamp giants share their green skin and hair and are often mistaken for them. They are shorter, stockier and far smarter, though, with the beginnings of a civilization. They keep trimmed beards and long braids hung with battle trophies.
Natural AC is 4, but many adult males wear secretly cured hide from young green dragons, for AC 0. Their coloring gives +3 to surprise others and -3 to being surprised, reduced to +2 and -2 in dragonhide. All regenerate 5 hit points per round.
They fight only to defend their land and try to reason with intruders first, dragons excepted. A war leader is often chosen and obeyed. Their tactic is to ring the foe, hidden by the foliage, and open with magic: from birth each can cast entangle thrice daily and plant growth once daily. With the victims bound in growth, the giants rain spears on them, two per giant each round.
Homes of reed and timber sit high in giant trees, 10 to 20 feet thick and at least 100 feet tall. They keep to themselves, meeting the bosk only to trade the carved wooden dishes and bowls their cousins prize.
More than four together away from home are a couple with young. A lair holds 4d4+6, half adults; infants have 10 HD and +5 damage, juveniles 13 HD and +7, and adults guard them if the village is attacked. Per 10 giants there is a 30% chance of a shaman, a druid of level 1d6 who advises the headman. One king, judged wisest and strongest, rules all villages and appoints their leaders.
They hunt, forage and farm a large ricelike grain, keeping no meat animals. Young green dragon is their favorite meal, and older green dragons return the favor.
