Super Eel

Super eels are exactly that: eels of colossal size, perhaps of several species. Heads may be blunt or pointed; colors run from reddish to blue or dark brown over a white belly, and a speckled kind seems limited to the Mediterranean. Most resemble a vastly scaled-up conger or moray, and unlike most 'sea serpents' they are backed by hard evidence.

In 1930 a Danish marine biologist trawling the deep South Atlantic hauled up an eel larva six feet long. Ordinary larvae measure a few inches at most and mature into eels around 6 feet, so scaling up suggested an adult between 108 and 180 feet; a cautious estimate assuming slower growth still gave about 50 feet. The catch came from the same waters as one of the best-known serpent sightings ever, reported from a ship's deck in 1848, and witness sketches of that animal look remarkably eel-like. The larva was last known to be preserved at a marine laboratory near Copenhagen.

Use the giant eel's statistics with three sizes: 50, 108 or 180 feet. From smallest to largest: 9 HD, THAC0 11, bite 4-16, 975 XP; 13 HD, THAC0 7, bite 3-18, 3,000 XP; 18 HD, THAC0 5, bite 5-20, 10,000 XP. The two larger sizes swim more slowly, at 8 and 7. Armor Class and everything else match the giant eel.
