Spider Dragon
A tailless, eight-legged dragon bred out of a dark goddess's envy, which smothers prey in slowing webs and sprays acidic venom in its underground hunting grounds.
Appearance
It has a tailless dragon's body on eight spider legs, with spider eyes in its reptilian head, and none of the magic most true dragons wield.
Combat
One breath is a web cone 90 feet long, 10 feet wide at the mouth and 30 at the end; those failing a save vs. breath weapon are slowed as the spell, and everyone fighting inside suffers -3 to attack and damage, while the dragon moves freely. Only magical fire clears it. The other is a 10 by 50 foot line of venom dealing 2d6+4 (hatchling) up to 13d6+26 (great wyrm). The dragon is immune to poison, paralysis, petrification, web and slow. It lures prey into tight tunnels and webs them there.
Habitat and Society
Veshyra, Mistress of the Gloomdeep, made spider dragons to rival the queen of dark dragons, who in fury imprisoned her there and destroyed nearly all of them. The few left live alone and mate as young adults; a female lays hundreds of eggs, then eats all but two. Fierce predators, they fear only true dragons. The drow of the Gloomdeep have tamed several.
Ecology
They eat meat, relishing spider horses and whisper spiders. Their acidic venom cuts through most wood, cloth and ceramic in seconds.
