Tiny, capricious faeries of ancient woodlands who ambush intruders with sleep-poisoned arrows and silly enchantments, and wage an endless war against their wicked unseelie cousins.
In ancient woods where elves once honored strange gods dwell the seelie faeries, shy and secretive, and pests when found. Most look like exquisite tiny humans; others are impish or warped, part beast, or wholly alien, yet always eerily lovely. All fly, some on gauzy wings, and each can shift its size anywhere from an inch to a foot.
Avoiding open battle, they ambush while invisible (at will) with tiny swords (1d2) and bows (1 point) bearing sleep poison; every hit demands a save vs. spell or 2d4 hours of slumber, so massed volleys are deadlier than they look. Some ride hornets, bumblebees or dragonflies with little lances (1d4), at times also poisoned.
Their favorite weapon is magic. Every seelie faerie has one fixed innate spell, of any level, usable once a day and chosen by the DM. Most are harmless but irksome, such as dancing lights, irritation, fog cloud, sleep, slow, stinking cloud, shocking grasp or improved phantasmal force. They especially enjoy hideous laughter, irresistible dance and polymorph other for the comedy.
Their society has commoners, nobles who know two spells a day, and royals who know at least three. They claim fantastic palaces hidden from mortal sight, likely on tiny demiplanes joined to the Prime Material where faerie magic runs deep, and pass their days in feasts and revels without ever working. Only their endless, unwinnable war with the wicked unseelie faeries is serious to them, and the two fight on sight.
They barely affect the wider world, seeming to live off their demiplanes and rarely foraging on the Prime Material Plane.
