An armored, fin-legged arthropod from the dawn of life, the leanchoilia snares prey with whip-tipped feelers and can stalk the shoreline for an hour at a time.
Like opabinia, yohoia and other ancient Burgess creatures, this arthropod has fin-feet for both swimming and crawling, at one plodding speed. It has two antenna-like front limbs ending in three whips each, an armored shell, and a serrated tail spine perhaps used for digging. The spine is harmless, but players need not know that. In the companion science-fiction rules, the shell absorbs 4 points per attack and lowers lethality ratings by 2.
Each whip-arm strikes for 1d6 and can entangle a victim of man-size or less, who cannot attack or flee without a successful Strength roll on 1d20 (under the science-fiction rules, Fitness at -5). Entangled prey is hauled to the mouth for 1d4 biting damage per round. Able to survive on land for about an hour, it is a serious threat to humans.
