Greater Gibbering Mouther

Just one greater gibbering mouther is known: Ixtlaquomazatl, self-proclaimed god and ruler of a jungle nation. Bigger and stronger than its kin, it has every power of a common gibbering mouther plus those below.

Its spittle catches fire on hitting anything solid, reaching 20 feet for 2d6 damage and igniting whatever will burn. It regains 2 hit points each round. Once a week it can bud off a fragment of itself, usually a mouth or two and a few eyes, that becomes an independent gibberspawn.

It chooses homes where it can rule many lesser beings, such as an inhabited ruin or a humanoid warren, and craves adoration and tribute. It eats its surroundings bare unless food keeps arriving. When it splits, only one half keeps its mind and powers; the other half is an ordinary mouther.

A chance mutation of an already artificial creature, it has no place in nature. Long fed by worshipers, and a scavenger at heart, it would hunt poorly on its own.

A grapefruit-sized lump with a few mouths and eyes, a gibberspawn clings to a living host and drinks 1 hit point of blood per day as it is carried along. It can nudge the host with wordless impulses, like suggestion but conveying only simple thoughts and emotions, usually serving its parent, which uses them to control a large territory. Gibberspawn: AC 7, 1 HD, movement 3, 65 XP.
