Glouras

Elusive enough to be nicknamed the unicorn of the deeps, this rare faerie haunts the deep underworld: a gray-skinned humanoid with long fingers, sharp claws, a tangle of dark hair and great moth wings that carry it slowly through the endless dark. It giggles, sings and titters far more than it talks, but it can converse in elvish, drow and faerie.

Its wings hum a ceaseless song that some adventurers rank above even a sirine's. Every creature that hears it must save vs. spell or become the glouras's charmed servant, gaining later saves as for charm person. Once free, a creature can never be charmed by that glouras again. Servants follow it anywhere, over cliffs or into raging rivers, and fight for it with no thought for their own lives, for it relies entirely on song and servants to survive.

It treats its giant bats, spiders and thinking thralls as a royal court, ordering them about and demanding entertainment, which is why some call these the courtly faeries. In battle it keeps up a running commentary, praising a strong blow here and scolding a timid one there. It cannot seem to tell thinking beings from beasts, greeting derro and giant spiders alike as peers and sometimes making an intelligent follower apologize to a mindless one.

Glouras stay apart from others except on new-moon nights, when they fly up to the surface amid swarms of bats to seek out the Unseelie Court and revel until the first light of dawn. They hate every creature of the day and attack such beings with furious strength.

The few drow who follow a drow goddess of song and moonlight revere the glouras as her messenger, while other drow fear and hunt it. Its shimmering wings, prized as decoration, fetch up to 400 gp from underworld traders.
