An ancient dragon fused with his own mountain, Garrovash tears free in earthquakes to breathe volcanic lava and is growing hungrier, and angrier, every year.
Garrovash is magically merged with a lone volcanic peak and only ever half emerges. Rock, dirt and gems stud his scales, and bare bone shows where flesh has not regrown, so he looks undead; in truth he lives, caged by a self-inflicted madness.
His head and one or both foreclaws burst from the slope together; he may free more of himself, but likely never more than half his body. He can bite and use both claws in one round, and he has the standard dragon special attacks except those that need flight or speed, since he cannot leave the mountain. He can surface anywhere on it in 2d4 rounds and sink back at the same rate, attacking as he withdraws; he usually pulls his head in first, so his claws attack at -4 until they too retreat.
Each emergence shakes the mountain: everyone on it must save vs. paralyzation or be knocked down, with modifiers at the DM's discretion based on distance. Seeing him poised for battle calls for a save vs. spell at -4; failure means the effects of a fear spell.
His breath is a volcanic eruption of fire, lava and molten rock in a 30-foot cone, 15 feet wide at the end, for 25d6+25 damage; a save vs. breath weapon halves it. Every object caught, enchanted or mundane, burns to cinders unless it saves vs. magical fire. On the next round, lava pours downhill (he is too clever to breathe uphill), and anything in his breath's path must save again or be engulfed, taking 15d6+15 in a 15-foot-wide strip up to 100 feet from his snout. He can breathe once every three rounds, but every blast after the first costs him 10 hit points of internal damage.
Meeting his gaze means 1d3 turns of paralysis unless the victim saves vs. paralyzation at -4, which he uses to catch the occasional trespasser to eat; he grows hungrier the more he works free. Anyone so trapped could automatically be subjected to feeblemind, suggestion or geas, though he rarely bothers yet.
He casts wizard spells as a 20th-level caster with access to nearly every spell known on the continent, and there are signs, unconfirmed, that he can wield realm-scale magic as well. Luckily he seldom casts, too busy trying to tear himself loose.
Locked in stone for centuries, he forgot hunger and pain; now he remembers, and his frustration grows. Utterly chaotic evil, he could turn it into mass destruction at any time.
