Evil Archomental

Five elemental tyrants of fire, earth, water, air and ice who have embraced evil, these archomentals stand one step below gods, granting spells and corrupting every servant they summon.

Overview

On the elemental planes, and on one paraelemental plane, a few elemental beings rise above the rest and force them into service. These archomentals break from the neutral nature of their birth planes and take on good or evil. They do not rule whole planes, only realms within them, and like the great demon lords they are not true powers, though close. They can be killed, yet they grant priests spells of 1st through 3rd level through faith alone and 4th level when they appear in person. Anyone tied to an element, native to the elemental planes or not, knows and fears them. They dislike being lumped together and seldom use any group name. Some say a nameless elder god of the elements fathered several of the evil ones.

Shared powers: at will, once per round, at 20th level: know alignment, detect invisibility, teleport without error, dispel magic, suggestion (lasting 12 hours) and infravision (lasting one day); read magic and comprehend languages thrice daily; telekinesis (600 pounds) once daily. All understand and speak with any intelligent creature.

Vulkareth, Prince of Evil Fire

He rules from inside a mighty volcano whose vortices reach the planes of Earth and Magma, commanding thousands of salamanders, efreet and fire elementals and trying to destroy any who will not kneel. He recently crushed an assault by the good fire prince and now hopes to tip the whole Plane of Fire toward evil under his rule, but his deepest passion is hatred of Thessaryne, whom some call his cousin or sister.

He is an 18-foot pillar of flame whose heat deals 1d20 per round to everyone within 10 feet, with no save, halved by fire resistance; his burning hand strikes for 6d6. Once a day he can call servants: 1d3 of either salamanders, fire elementals or efreet. Three times a day he casts a blinding continual light, a wall of fire of triple damage and size, and pyrotechnics, and once a day a 20d6 fireball. Only +2 or better weapons hurt him, and he cannot be poisoned, paralyzed or petrified. Water attacks gain +1 to hit; cold attacks gain +2 to hit and +1 damage per die.

Krolgath, Lord of Evil Earth

This 10-foot stone tyrant keeps a fortress on a plateau within an enormous cavern but roams constantly looking for subjects to bully, slaves to drive and rivals to fight. Terror of his arrival pushes many earth natives toward his foe, the good earth princess Talmara, whose clashes with him are said to shake the whole plane.

His fists deal 5d10. Three times a day he casts flesh to stone, move earth (double area, cast in rounds instead of turns) and a triple-strength wall of stone, and once a day he makes a 100-foot-diameter earthquake. Once a day he summons 1d3 earth elementals, 1d6 khargra, 1d4 tunnel brutes or 1d4 xorn, all permanently turned evil. He is immune to fire and poison, takes 1 less point per die from cold, lightning and magical fire, and is harmed only by +3 or better weapons.

Thessaryne, Princess of Evil Water

She is worshiped by elementals and by sahuagin, vodyanoi, sea wolves, eyes of the deep and more, and is reputed to work with many hezrou. With the most worshipers of any archomental, she may be nearest to true godhood. She rarely leaves her coral castle, guarded by a startling number of water weirds, where she nurses her hatred of Vulkareth while ignoring the good water prince and the plane's true deities.

She is a raging 20-foot wave that slams for 2d12 and can engulf up to five man-sized creatures with one hit against AC 6 (modified only by Dexterity and magic). The engulfed are helpless, take 2d6 per round and drown in 2d4 rounds unless she is driven off, since she cannot move while holding them. Once a day she can call 20d10 sahuagin, 1d4+1 water weirds, 1d2 sea hags or 1d3 water elementals. Three times a day, at 20th level, she casts ice storm, part water, lower water, transmute rock to mud and a triple-strength wall of fog. On other planes she must stay in water but can ram ships with the force of two heavy galleys.

Weapons of +1 or better hit her, edged ones for half damage. She is immune to petrification and paralyzation and quenches normal fires within 10 feet. Magical fire gains +2 to hit and +1 damage per die. Cold does not hurt her, but every 20 points of it acts as a slow spell with no resistance or save.

Sirrhas, Master of Evil Air

Subtle and naturally invisible, he betrays himself only by a faint stir in the air. He keeps a palace of solid air but wanders his plane and others, especially the Prime, and every flying creature fears him. His rival is the good air princess Ilaeth; they have never met, waging a silent war of threats and spying, and it is said only one will survive their meeting.

He strikes twice a round with gusts of 2d10, stunning for 1d6 rounds on a roll 5 or more above what he needed. Normally a 10-foot current, he can become an 80-foot whirlwind, 10 feet wide at the base and 30 at the top, for 1d4+1 rounds, taking a full round to form or disperse. Everything in it is hit automatically: creatures under 3 HD die, swept away, and other non-flyers take 4d8; if something blocks its full height, nothing dies and the damage drops to 2d8. Once a day he summons 1d3 aerial servants, 1d4 invisible stalkers, 1d4 cloud giants or 1d3 air elementals, all made evil forever. Only +2 or better weapons hurt him, and nothing thrown or fired through the air does. He is immune to lightning and petrification, and fire attacks gain +1 to hit per four levels of the attacker.

Hrimvald, Lord of Ice

The odd one out, he is a paraelemental lord as mighty as the archomentals, while the other paraelemental lords are mere strong mephits ruling where no one cares. He may be another child of the elder god. He means to make the Plane of Ice the strongest of all the Inner Planes. The other four pair off as enemies, fire against water most bitterly, earth against air less so, but he has no elemental or moral opposite (the magma lord is just a powerful mephit, and there is no good ice prince), so he plots unchecked.

He is a 15-foot, fur-covered, yeti-like humanoid with two long tentacles for arms, each dealing 5d4; anyone struck saves vs. paralyzation or is frozen in place for 3d4 rounds. His cold deals 1d6 per round to all within 15 feet, no save, half for the cold-resistant. His glacial palace is called the coldest spot on his plane. Three times a day he uses triple-strength wall of ice, hold person and a 4d10 ice storm; once a day he casts cone of cold at 15th level and can summon 1d6 yeti, 1d4 frost giants, 1d4 white dragons or 1d3 ice paraelementals. Only +2 or better weapons hit him, with a cumulative 10% chance per strike of shattering (a shattering hit does no damage). He is immune to poison and petrification, cold spells heal him up to his maximum, and fire attacks gain +2 to hit and +1 damage per die.
