Dinosaur IV

Six more great reptiles, including the colossal 90-ton brachiosaurus, gem-swallowing camarasaurs and a herd beast so dim that its stampedes kill.

Anchisaurus

This plant eater can rise on two legs to feed but spends most of its life on four. It climbs large plants or trees to get away from small predators. It never starts a fight, though its sharp teeth can bite back hard.

Brachiosaurus

The heaviest dinosaur and the largest sauropod lives in warm swamps and lakes. Its listed 75 feet is only an average, and unconfirmed reports describe relatives up to 130 feet long. It stands 40 feet tall, half of that neck, easily browsing treetops, and weighs 90 tons, three times a brontosaurus (a typical whale, the biggest sea creature, runs 100 feet and 150 tons). It spends every waking hour eating and, with its tiny brain, rarely notices intruders, though few would be mad enough to attack it. Its long forefeet crush anything small they land on for 8d10.

Camarasaurus

A small, timid swamp sauropod that lives in herds for safety and panics more readily than a brontosaurus. It tramples for 3d10. It eats ferns and low leaves, so it does not compete with its taller cousins, and herds migrate with the seasons, so where one turns up depends on the season. Like a bird with a gizzard, it swallows rocks to grind its food. Gems might lurk in its belly, but finding one would be a needle-in-a-haystack hunt.

Camptosaurus

A sluggish and remarkably stupid iguanodont, easy prey for any predator, it usually does not think to flee until one of the herd has been killed. Herds mix small, medium and large animals. A stampede of them is lethal: anyone in its path who fails a save vs. death ray is trampled flat and killed.

Cetiosaurus

This big plant eater of lakes and marshes has a somewhat larger head than other sauropods such as brachiosaurus, brontosaurus and diplodocus. Its 10 tons deal 4d10 to any small creature, such as a human, it treads on. Like its kin it must eat enormous amounts; a sauropod's vast body is mostly stomach and gut for processing all that food.

Dacentrurus

Imagine a stegosaurus that swapped its plates for rows of long, keen spikes along the back and tail. It lives mainly in dense growth and defends itself aggressively, keeping its lashing tail turned toward attackers. Its active defense gives it a 75% chance of counting as AC 3, and anyone striking at its neck, back or tail has a 25% chance of being hit in return for 1d8.
