A second herd of prehistoric giants and hunters, from the 30-ton thunder lizard to sail-backed dimetrodons and chicken-sized night stalkers that strike from cover.
This vicious 'flesh lizard' sprints at great speed over firm ground. At about 1.5 tons it is bigger than its cousin the megalosaurus but smaller than the tyrannosaurus. Its skull is built of bony plates, sturdy yet light enough for lightning-fast bites. It preys now and then on brontosaurus and diplodocus and also eats carrion, and few creatures are rash enough to contest its kills.
The 'thunder lizard', also called apatosaurus, is a plant eater of marshes and lakes. It wades in shallows where food is rich and the water helps hold up its body, but it avoids deep water, where the pressure would stop it breathing. Its body runs 65 feet while its head is under 2 feet long; scaled to a six-foot man, that head would be two inches. Its weight is given both as 40 tons and as a mere 30, light for a sauropod.
It ignores small creatures but treads on anything in its path for 4d10. Like most sauropods (brachiosaurus excepted) its forelegs are shorter than its hind legs, so it can rear up to browse treetops, and it can turn that move on its chief foe, the allosaurus, crashing down for 5d10. A flick of its tail deals 1d6 to anything close enough.
The 'horn lizard' is a carnosaur, smaller kin of the allosaurus and tyrannosaurus, weighing about a ton yet fast on two legs or four. Only males have the nose horn, and it is not used in fights. A thin ridge of bony plates runs from crown to tail tip, giving its back the look of a giant saw, so even people who confuse dinosaurs recognize this one. Unlike its bigger relatives it hunts in packs, letting it bring down far larger animals.
This chicken-sized carnivore is a close relative of the first birds; give it feathers and wings and it might pass for a hen. Small enough to hide even in groups, a pack imposes a -3 penalty on its prey's surprise rolls. It is mostly nocturnal and may fall on sleepers. Hunting alone it takes small lizards and insects.
A ferocious sail-backed predator from the mammal-like reptiles. Its sail acts as a solar collector, warming it to hunting temperature hours before its prey. It probably swims, though this is uncertain. It has no claw attacks, but its alligator-like jaws bite for 3d4+3.
A carnivore the size of a small dog and likely forebear of the great carnosaurs. Packs of 2d4 attack one or two small creatures or a single man-sized one when the odds favor them, and hungry packs will stalk even large groups, especially if one member is hurt. It usually goes on all fours but rears up and dashes a short way on its hind legs when threatened.
Also called albertosaurus and probably an ancestor of the tyrannosaurus, it has the same build on a smaller frame, with a longer snout and teeth that curve farther back. It is swift, extremely aggressive and may weigh up to two tons.
