Biclops

A filthy two-headed, two-eyed giant that swings a weapon in each fist and hurls boulders with uncanny aim when both heads look at the same target.

Setting: Dragon Magazine · Sources: Dragon172

Appearance

This grey-brown giant has two heads, each with one yellow eye set in the middle of its face. It may be a cyclopskin and ettin cross. The right head is usually a bit larger and always dominates. Biclopes never bathe, make only crude gear, and talk in grunts and a few borrowed words. They have 90-foot infravision.

Combat

Each head guides one arm, and each arm swings its own weapon, usually a maul, tree-limb club or stone axe, at the same or different foes. If one head is put out of action, the other runs both arms but can aim them only at one target.

A biclops also throws two small boulders a round, drawn from piles in its lair, up to 30 feet for 1-8 damage each. Aiming both at one target gives it crude depth perception and no penalty; splitting the throws, or throwing with one head disabled, costs -2 to hit on each. It wears grimy hides, never armor, and plays with fire but never cooks or fights with it.

Habitat and Society

Biclopes live alone in isolated mountain caves and hunt at night. The only groups are mothers with 1-3 young, which have 3 Hit Dice, AC 6, and small clubs dealing 1d4+3/1d6+4 (half that barehanded); they mature after 5-8 years. A biclops rarely cooperates with anyone and attacks whatever it sees.

Ecology

Scavengers, they eat anything from fruit, honey and carrion to the odd human, goblin, orc or dwarf, and they relish people-meat. Dragons and wyverns hunt them, and adventurers, armies and other giants attack on sight, so although an unchecked biclops wreaks real havoc, some regions wipe them out within a few years of discovery.
