A shy, one-horned cow of the open plains that charges with surprising force, ignores charms and death spells, and gives milk that toughens whoever drinks it.
Typically a black-patched white beast, the unicow has a single blue horn jutting from its brow.
The horn gores for 2-20 damage, at +2 to hit after a charge of 30 feet or more. Its saving throws are those of a 7th-level wizard. Charm and hold magic fail against it, and so do death spells.
Unicows avoid people and keep to grassy plains. Like a unicorn, one can be tamed by a pure-hearted maiden, but she has to be neutral and, it is said, a bit dim. These devoted milkmaids care for their herds lovingly until the day they sell them to elven slaughterhouses for meatloaf. Unicows have a language of their own, used almost entirely to discuss grass.
Nobody knows where they came from or why. Drinking their milk raises Constitution by 2 for 2-5 hours.
