Crimson-skinned, fire-proof demihumans distantly related to the efreet, whose knightly order roams the world in glowing red-gold plate, hunting efreet wherever they meddle.
Sollux are tall, statue-like demihumans with crimson skin and vivid yellow hair. Their irises are blazing white or deep blue, set in eyeballs that glow yellow with a reddish tint. Men and women alike stand about 7 feet or a little more and weigh 180 to 240 pounds.
Adults have Strength between 18/01 and 18/50, granting +1 to hit and +3 to damage, and most have Dexterity 16 or better. Ordinary flames and every sort of illusion fail against a sollux, and it can detect invisibility at will. Against magical attacks they get +1 on saving throws and reduce the damage by 1 point, whether or not the save succeeds.
The sollux adventurers usually meet belong to the Sunsworn, a knightly order sworn to hunt down efreet on the Prime. Members of either sex are called sun brothers. They wear red-gold plate and bear large metal shields that shine with continual light, and they carry a long sword, spear, dagger, lasso and some ranged weapon, most often a short composite bow. Any magic they own tends to be enchanted arms or armor. Typical members are fighters of 10th to 14th level, specialized in a favorite melee weapon, typically the long sword, and the order's leader is said to be a 16th-level warrior wielding a long sword of efreeti slaying +3. Facing efreet, a sun brother has morale 20.
Generally calm and fairly friendly, sollux talk first with anyone who is not an efreeti and withdraw in good order when outmatched. Efreet, though, they always try to kill or banish from the Prime. Unable to fly, they arrange for the efreeti to come to them, usually by exposing its trickery (their immunity to illusions helps) or by seizing its treasure. They plan every such clash with great care.
Sages think sollux live and raise families in magma-filled caverns far underground. Only proven warriors, usually ones who have slain an efreeti, may join the Sunsworn. Individual sun brothers settle wherever it is fiercely hot, such as scorching deserts or the craters of live volcanoes, though they spend much of their lives traveling to hunt efreet and visit kin. They usually fight alone or with allies met on the road, uniting only in dire need. They say almost nothing about how the feud with the efreet began.
Though distant relatives of the efreet, sollux belong to the Prime Material Plane. Their diet matches that of humans and demihumans, but they like everything cooked and served at a boil.
