Skeletal vulture-things raised from corpses by a chaos fiend, scavenger spawn slow their prey with every bite until it can only lie still and be eaten alive.
Born from corpses by the power of the daemonlord, these bony monsters blend a human skeleton with a vulture. From afar their broad black wings make them look like ordinary vultures, and only a close look or a diving attack reveals bare skulls for faces and talons of razor-edged bone.
In the air a spawn rakes with its claws for 1d8 and bites with its fanged maw for 1d6. A bitten victim must save vs. spell or be slowed for 1d6 turns. Unlike most slowing, the effect stacks: a second failed save cuts movement and attacks to a quarter of normal, and so on until the victim can barely move, at which point the flock gathers gleefully to feast on its still-living prey.
A single haste, or a dispel magic that succeeds, wipes away all the accumulated slowing. A hasted hero is immune to further slowing while the spell lasts, though the haste then only restores normal speed and attacks rather than doubling them.
Unlike most of the daemonlord's spawn, these actually eat. They draw out the kill as long as possible before feeding and happily share with their flockmates, never squabbling over food.
Their eyes can pick out a human-sized object two or three miles away. They soar for hours without tiring and gather in flocks of several dozen.
