Rhoeghn

The rhoeghn (pronounced ROON) looks like a human child with skin the shade of rich brown soil and long, leafy green hair. Restless fern-like wings grow at elbow, knee and ankle. Its most striking feature is its eyes: enormous, lidless and midnight black, mirroring everything they see. It can turn into a deer or a waist-high patch of ferns at will.

Its agility gives it +3 to surprise rolls. It would rather avoid a fight, but if pressed it hovers on beating wings and rakes with razor claws on all four limbs each round. Every third round it can also unleash a wing buffet in a cone 25 feet long that widens from 5 feet to 15. Anything weighing less than 300 pounds in the cone saves vs. paralysis at -3. Those who succeed are only pelted by debris for 1d4 damage; those who fail take 2d4 and are flung back 3d6 feet unless something solid stops them, which may hurt even more.

Surprisingly strong, it can fly while carrying up to 400 pounds. Most human and elven dialects are known to it, though animal speech is not, and can use speak with plants twice a day. It can read scrolls like a mage, though only nature magic interests it. Its senses are uncanny: it hears the faintest whisper, notices the smallest detail, can tally sand grains by feel, and smells poison at a sniff. Old writings claim it seldom likes wizards but seeks out those of elven blood, and name elven forests, especially one in the northern part of the sunlit southern realms, as its home.

Elusive and inoffensive, it has few enemies. It eats only wildflowers, savoring rain-wet petals, with honeysuckle and violets its favorites.
