Spade-handed, earth-colored ghouls of the steaming southern jungles, they tunnel beneath graveyards and drag victims down into the soil before anyone can react.
Lean and supple, these tropical ghouls are colored like the dirt they move through, and their hands are broad and flat like spades. Travelers' tales say they dig more quietly than an armadillo, and one is supposed to have tunneled after a man living beside a cemetery until it caught him in his own cellar.
A jungle ghoul tunnels through the earth, rises without warning beneath its target, and tries to haul the victim underground to eat later. It always gains surprise and paralyzes just as an ordinary ghoul does. Those it kills do not become ghouls.
They live in unruly packs where the strongest seize most of the meat, and a hungry enough jungle ghoul will happily eat its packmates.
These grave-robbing predators and scavengers are dreaded across the southern lands. They fill no useful role in nature, and people kill them wherever they turn up.
