Ordinary monsters swollen to monstrous scale by a vanished wizard's experiments, these gargantua include a corpse creeper that hunts elephants and a troll twenty feet tall.
In this world, gargantua are colossal versions of other monsters, terrifying for both size and savagery. The forms below are the commonest, but a gargantuan version of any monster, humanoid or construct is possible. Apart from scale they look just like the original; a gargantuan troll is the same lanky, green, filthy-clawed horror, only about 20 feet tall.
They fight like their smaller kin, with the same attacks, AC, alignment and magical powers, except that regeneration works at double speed. Their noisy bulk means they can never surprise anything, and those of size H or larger take a -4 to hit man-sized or smaller foes. Many, though not all, swallow a foe whole on a natural 20 with a bite.
A reclusive wizard made the first of them, and they have appeared across the land for over a century. Whether he still lives, hidden and breeding bigger things, is unknown, as is whether his creations can breed, though many sages fear they can. They live alone except to mate, keep to the most remote wilds, and only now and then wander into settled lands.
They eat what their small cousins eat, but in enormous quantities.
Unlike its scavenging cousin, this one actively hunts, though it barely notices anything smaller than an elephant. It paralyzes like a normal corpse creeper, then can gulp down victims of man size or less. It has been seen only in the largest caverns of the deep wilds.
Perhaps only one exists, and sages pray its maker stopped there, since a race of them might wreck civilization. The smartest known gargantua, it attacks several foes at once, never uses melee weapons, but hurls boulders up to 80 yards for 4d8. It regenerates 6 points per round and shares every normal troll weakness. Nobody has cut off one of its limbs and survived to see whether the limb kept fighting, but sages assume it would.
DMs may build other gargantua from these guidelines, though none with Intelligence above 7 has ever been seen.
