Shark-mouthed survivors of a drowned empire who wear handsome human faces on land and command the beasts of the deep in their hunger for revenge.
Fathomkin are fishlike humanoids with clawed hands and shark jaws. No one knows if this was always their shape or whether it came when their kingdom sank. They can magically become attractive humans, or sharks.
In true form they claw and bite, and they often wield tridents, spears or nets. Strong light hampers them, imposing a -2 attack penalty in sunshine or similar glare, even in human guise. Their natural form survives only 1-6 hours out of water; as humans they can stay ashore indefinitely.
Within a mile they can command any number of ordinary fish, or a single kraken or giant whale, four giant octopi, or as many as six sea cloakers or sharks. Their highest nobles, such as their princess, can call a titanic whale with leviathan statistics.
They still haunt the drowned palaces and temples of their lost empire, bent on vengeance against the surface folk who defeated them and still plunder their shrines. Treasure is guarded jealously, by the fathomkin or by giant sharks and sea cloakers.
These carnivores favor fish but will eat humans if needed, and most sea life around their sunken realm obeys them.
