A flying, fur-covered eyeball from the Abyss that bombs foes with tears of poisonous blue fluid and kills for pleasure whenever its dark masters leave it bored.
The body is a bloated egg about 5 feet wide, shaggy with tangled black fur and kept aloft by a pair of leathery, bat-like wings of similar span, each tipped with three razor talons. An 8-foot rat tail ending in a small sharp spur trails behind. Lacking feet, it has never once been observed to land. Nearly all of its front is a single swollen eye, 4 feet across, black around a pupil the red of blood, which constantly weeps a foul blue fluid that heavy eyelids squeeze away, staining the fur. The acrid stench burns the nose and mouth of anyone nearby.
Most often it claws and lashes with its tail, either diving at targets or hovering and slashing. Its other trick is to drop a tear, a foot-wide ball of poisonous blue fluid, from up to 100 feet away while hovering or diving. It controls the release so precisely that the tear uses its normal attack roll. A struck target saves vs. poison and takes 2d6 damage on a failure or 1d6 on a success. Anyone within ten feet may be splashed at -2 to hit, suffering 2d4 on a failed save vs. poison or 1d4 on a success.
Within 2d6 hours, depending on heat and humidity, a shed tear sets into a rubbery lump; anyone handling one must save vs. poison or take 1 point of damage. Eyewings see with perfect clarity up to 25 miles and have 120-foot infravision. They and their tears are immune to all cold attacks.
These supernatural servitors exist only to obey the dark gods and their mightier minions, who value them as stupid, obedient and loyal. Without orders they turn sluggish and listless, but that is boredom, not weakness, and nothing cures their boredom like ripping apart innocent creatures.
They have no culture or society. They squeak a shrill language of their own and understand other tongues without speaking them. In the Abyss they live only on layers where flight is possible, and their cold immunity makes the icy layers comfortable.
Eyewings are sexless and outside nature. They kill unprompted for the fun of it. They have been met on the moon, without air or water, so they likely need neither, and since none has been seen eating, scholars assume magic sustains them. Greater Abyssal creatures will happily snack on one that drifts close, but nothing hunts them as natural prey.
