Iron-bodied merchants from another universe, these devourers drape worthless junk in unbreakable illusions, sell it as treasure and leave whole cities bankrupt.
Stripped of disguise, a devourer looks like a big iron statue, much like an iron golem. It almost never shows that form. Its illusions let it pass as anyone or anything, usually the most harmless, wide-eyed shopkeeper imaginable. No saving throw applies against these illusions and dispel magic cannot remove them; only magical sight sees through.
Devourers avoid fights but are formidable when cornered. Three in four (75%) carry enchanted weapons of +2 to +4, and being shrewd, they retreat from any battle they expect to lose.
They can cloak the true nature of any item within 100 feet. Only true sight, an enchanted blindfold of seeing or similar magic reveals what such an object really is, and the disguise lasts until the final devourer has left the world.
Born in a parallel universe, devourers have spread to many worlds, setting up shop in great cities, selling rubbish as marvelous bargains and draining the place of its wealth. Each carries treasure types Q and Z. Their true hoards (types D, F and H) lie on their undiscovered home plane under very heavy guard.
