Cold Woman

Only one cold woman exists at a time: an enormous white pudding roughly molded into a woman's shape. Few who see her survive, but legend says she dwells in a cavern heaped with wealth, paralyzing and devouring the greedy.

She draws in prey with illusions of whatever will tempt it: a lovely woman, a fortune, a meal. A save vs. spell sees through the image. Her cold ray reaches 6" and deals 7-70, halved with a save vs. breath weapon. Her ordinary touch deals 4-40 and leaves the target frozen rigid forever unless it saves vs. paralyzation. Like a black pudding's, that touch also eats away and dissolves metal. Slashing and bludgeoning attacks do nothing to her, nor do lightning and cold magic.

Her lair is a sprawling cave system in the frozen northern wastes, a remote corner of a vast northern forest. She is never without 2-8 cold spawn, the equivalent of white puddings.

She lays eggs on the bodies of paralyzed victims. The eggs come away easily and die if removed, but otherwise hatch in 24 hours and devour their host at once. The spawn stay with their mother until she dies, then battle for supremacy, and the last one alive transforms into the next cold woman.
