Unseen Folk

A dwindling, decadent race of invisible xenophobes who swoop from a frozen mountain kingdom on unseen flying rays, loosing arrows and cackling as they vanish.

Setting: Lankhmar · Sources: Lankhmar: City of Adventure (2nd Ed.)

Appearance

The unseen folk are wholly invisible but built like humans; painted with cosmetics, they look entirely human. Magic can reshape them, and the king's unhinged heir flies on wings granted by an ice wizard.

Combat

Their weapons stay visible, and though they never wear armor, all attacks against them suffer a -4 penalty. They love to ride invisible rayfish past foes, shoot, and vanish laughing madly. They see invisible things naturally and fight unseen enemies with no penalty.

Habitat and Society

These evil recluses have held a nearly unreachable northern peak for centuries, emerging only to aid the plots of the ice wizard who may have created them; some link them to the see-through ghouls of their world. The pitiless King Ulvarrok and his demented son Rafvarr rule, and an enslaved tribe of ice gnomes does their work, kindly handled and respectful but never free. Sterile males have pushed the realm toward extinction, and the king now experiments with human crossbreeding, results unknown. Their coins are strange gems that outsiders see only in darkness, which collectors value at 1,000-6,000 gp apiece.
