The White Boar

A huge white boar shaped by the gods to carry a divine spirit, sent to hunt down one wizard's monstrous creation and gone the moment its task is done.

Setting: Dungeon Magazine · Sources: Dungeon #37

Appearance

It looks like a gigantic wild boar, but it is no animal. The old Celtic gods built this body to house a godlike avatar's spirit, whose mission is to destroy the wizard Vessaran and his monstrous bulette-mutation. It always travels alone. Normal boars shun it completely, and will even attack their own keepers to flee from it.

Combat

In battle it bites and tears with its tusks like the beast it resembles, though unlike a wild boar it cannot keep fighting once reduced below 0 hit points. Its hide, however, turns any weapon short of +2 enchantment. It thinks as well as a human does, so play it as an intelligent creature that pushes steadily toward its one goal.

Ecology

Being one of a kind, it fits nowhere in the woodland's natural balance and keeps no company in this world; whatever society its spirit knows on its home plane is unknown. It endures until it is slain or its quarry, the bulette-mutation, dies, whichever comes first.
