Tough-skinned nomad gnomes of the frozen wastes who roam in hordes big enough to wipe out entire human tribes.
Ice gnomes are ferocious in numbers. They carry any weapon of suitable size (use the weapon table) and wear leather at best, their hardy skin giving AC 9. A fighter of 3 HD leads each 30. Groups of 100 add a leader of 4-5 HD, and hordes of 150 follow a chief of 6-7 HD.
Wild tribes roam the frozen northern wastes in hordes that can wipe out whole human tribes; one famed barbarian swordsman lost his clan to them. They live in hide tents or rough lean-tos under hereditary chiefs, who can be unseated by trial by combat. Females match the warriors in number, plus a quarter as many children as males. Tame snow serpents (1d4) or wolves (1d6) may guard camps. Some tribes serve the unseen folk of a towering northern peak as warriors, servants or slaves.
Omnivores, they live about 40 years; females bear one child after six months.
